Next version of Raminos Linux (2.0 xfce openrc) is about 33% done. Main work is going on it and it may have some limited online-update capability by the "package manager" (downloading and updating the package). Sourceforge.net mirrors are reachable by direct download access.
I hope that I will be able to update all of the packages to the newest versions and "import" it into 2.0.
There are some updates for current version. Due to lack of ftp server access you have to install updates manually one by one.
Download the package you want to update:
+"openrc" package update fixes bootup stalling at "Cleaning /var/run"
+"fontconfig" package update fixes ugly fonts in browsers
+rest of the updates are browser and kernel updates
--there are some library problems which will be fixed (don't know when)
These updates may be installed by starting a root session or changing session to root by "sudo bash" command
The package update command is:
pacman -U package_filename
If you update or install kernel packages using the previous command, then you should run the following command after the update process:
grub-mkconfig > /boot/grub/grub.cfg
This command adds new kernel versions to bootloader configuration.
I'm sorry guys but this is the third uploaded (updated) image of Raminos Linux in a week. if you have successfully installed the second version then use it, but it wasn't in proper isohybrid format. The incorrect file has been corrected, and it's ready to install from pendrive or DVD;( link: raminux.sourceforge.net iso image: Raminos_Linux-1.0-rc0.1-xfce-openrc-ird-0.3-32bit.iso
The image files were updated, because there were problems with graphical login.
Raminos Linux 1.0 rc0.1 xfce-openrc is under heavy development but it is a good useable distribution with the latest browsers. Repository is only available on installation media and it has a text mode installer.
You can install it on a pendrive using MBR partitions and install bootloader onto this pendrive. - To try it.
For GPT partition installation the only way is using command line to prepare GPT partitions and make filesystems. (UEFI is also not supported this stage)
Thank you for your interest!
Raminus linux succesfully uploaded in isohybrid format(bootble from pendrive), which image is 2.4GB and uses isolinux to boot. If something goes wrong during bootup try using it with another image on separate pendrive. Grub and grub4dos images are available in usbboot_helper_img directory.
